"If we can become comfortable with the power of emotion,
it becomes [our] greatest ally..." Sue Johnson

As an individual, relationship, and family therapist, my focus is on the connection between partners, friends, family, workmates, as well as oneself. My style is engaged, mindful, collaborative, and sometimes humorous.

My focus is on how we attach or lose attachment to each other or ourselves. I primarily use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT, see sidebar), to cultivate secure relationships. Extensive research of this model has shown, for instance, that 70 - 75% of couples move from distress to recovery, and approximately 90% showing significant improvement in their relationship. This has certainly been my experience.

EFT, along with somatic studies from my M.E.T.A. training (see sidebar) and the work of Internal Family Systems (see sidebar) help create an environment to cultivate deepening awareness along with real growth.

From these perspectives come the understanding that everyone acts the way they do for a reason, and that engaged mindfulness facilitates opening and forward movement.

My range of experience includes working with:
  • depression
  • parenting struggles
  • relationship conflicts, including recovering from affairs
  • divorce or separation
  • life stages issues
  • trauma

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist, # 001065, practicing at a convenient location in downtown Ithaca, NY.

I work on a sliding scale and do my best to not turn anyone away over financial need.
